Ya know I just gotta think that when non-dinosaur creatures smirked and giggled behind the dinosaurs backs, the dinosaurs were equally clueless then as they are today. Otherwise we wouldn't be burning their remnants in our cars.

It's going to take the downfall of a major media company to snap the others' powers-that-be into making the changes that Joe Blogger made a long time ago. Historical inertia keeps them from making extreme changes. Right now they're taking things step by step...seeing how far they really have to go to preserve readership as they've historically defined it 'cause hey, that's all they know.

What comes to mind here is the presidential primary debates starting up here in The States. One network refuses to make it's coverage available online for public use. Another network goes out of it's way to announce it WILL make it's coverage available and God Bless America while you're at it, thanks. Meanwhile Joe Blogger is busy just engaging with the candidates at their stops, recording the speeches and other material, and putting it all up on the net for consumption and discussion.

Major media can't live off it's laurels forever. The day will come when whether you are good press or not will be judged by how you do things now instead of how you did things then.
